Water Baptism
Water Baptism is a very important step in the life of a Christian. Jesus modeled three steps for us to follow. These steps include
1. His birth
2. His baptism in water
3. Receiving the Holy Spirit.
In this, we are washed in the blood, baptized in water, and receive the Holy Spirit as a seal of our salvation.
I. What is the meaning of baptism?
Water baptism is symbolic of Christ’s death and resurrection. It also indicates my new life as a Christian.
“Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” (Romans 6:4)
II. Why should I be baptized?
Baptism demonstrates being united with Christ.
“For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death [baptism], certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection.” (Romans 6:5)
III. Who should be baptized and when?
A person should be baptized as soon as they are ready after accepting Jesus as Savior. Scripture shows many were baptized immediately after becoming a believer in Jesus as their Savior.
“But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized.” (Acts 8:12)
IV. How should I be baptized?
Baptism by immersion is the best symbol of identifying with Christ in His death and resurrection. Entering the water symbolizes death to self and coming out of the water is the perfect symbol of being raised a new person. Jesus was baptized by immersion in water.
“When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water…” (Matthew 3:16)
Water baptism is not essential for being received into heaven, but is essential in obeying the commands of the scripture. It is an act of obedience identifying us with Christ and an outward sign that we are living a new life. Lifebridge ask that the following requirements be met for Water Baptism:
